29 January 2009
Guangzhou metro.

CHINA: CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co has been selected to supply rolling stock for the 30·7 km 11-station northern extension of Guangzhou Metro Line 3 to the airport. The contract is worth around 1·2bn yuan, and deliveries will run from February 2010 to February 2011, with 18 cars to be in service by the time the city hosts the Asian Games in November 2010.

It is the third order CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co has won from Guangzhou. A contract for 120 Type B metro cars for Line 3 was signed in 2003, followed by an order for 180 Type A cars for Lines 2 and 8 in 2007.

CSR also signed a contract last November to provide 84 Type B cars for the second phase of Wuhan Line 1. The first delivery is due by March 2010, and all vehicles will be supplied by May 2011.
