Expanding Goats

01 September 2004

RAILPOWER Technologies announced on August 4 the signing of a memorandum of understanding with United Goninan Ltd to market Green Goat diesel-battery hybrid shunting locomotives across Australia and southeast Asia.

'We feel confident to move ahead with this technology. We believe it has considerable potential in Australia and southeast Asia where there are thousands of yard locomotives', said United Group Chief Executive Richard Leupen.

In the USA, the Texas Emissions Reduction Program has approved $24·4m of funding towards the purchase of 25 or more Green Goat hybrid shunting locomotives for use in the state. The exact number of locos is to be confirmed with the operators: three Class I railways, two regional carriers and three industrial operators.
