Factory opens to support bearing technology shift

20 July 2010

RUSSIA: A factory to produce sealed pre-lubricated compact tapered bearing units for Russian and export customers was opened in Tver on July 8. SKF is investing SKr235m in the plant, which at full capacity could employ 100 people producing up to 150 000 bearing units a year.

SKF said the plant would strengthen the company's position as a supplier to Russian Railways, which is making a 'technology shift' from axlebox mounted wheelset roller bearings to sealed tapered roller bearing units which offer lower life-cycle costs and longer maintenance intervals.
