GE announces Brazilian locomotive contract

BRAZIL: GE Transportation has signed an agreement to supply América Latina Logística with 10 AC44i diesel-electric locomotives by the end of 2009, the manufacturer announced on December 3.

The 1 600 mm gauge locomotives be built at GE Transportation South America's plant in Contagem, Brazil, with engines from Grove City, Pennsylvania.

ALL currently operates 1 095 locomotives on its 21 300 km rail network in Brazil and Argentina. 'We look forward to the increased performance advantage these new AC locomotives will provide,' said Mechanical Superintendent Gabriel Martelli.

Since 1967 GE Transportation South America has produced more than 1 000 AC44, Dash 9, C Series and other locomotives in Brazil for customers in more than 15 countries.
