GE signs Indonesian locomotive deal

INDONESIA: State railway PTKA has confirmed an order for 20 GE Transportation C20-EMP diesel locomotives, to be delivered in 2010-11. A memorandum of understanding also commits PTKA and GE Transportation to developing a long-term plan for the purchase or lease of up to 150 additional locomotives.

The signing ceremony was held at PTKA's head office in Bandung on July 14. 'PTKA is committed to improving its service and also the safety, comfort, and punctuality of its train operation', said PTKA President Director Ignasius Jonan. 'Our fleet rejuvenation is part of our commitment to improving service for our customers'.

The 1 067 mm gauge locomotives will assembled by PT INKA in Madiun, using kits of parts supplied from GE Transportation's Erie plant in the USA and 2 150 hp 7FDL engines produced in Grove City.

There are currently more than 175 GE locomotives in operation in Indonesia.
