Japanese tram loop opens

06 January 2010

JAPAN: The city of Toyama's third tram route opened on December 23, with the reinstatement of a circular service through the city centre.

Branded as Centram, Line 3 has been created by building 940 m of 1 067 mm gauge track with three new stops between the Marunouchi and Aramachi stops on Line 1.

A one-way circular service from the railway station is operated by local transport company Chitetsu using three new two-section Niigata Transys Type 9000 trams, each in a different livery. Following the opening celebrations the full service began on December 24, with trams every 10 min taking 18 min for a complete circuit, calling at 11 stops.
