Central California Traction gets low-emissions locomotive

12 January 2012

USA: Central California Traction Co has taken delivery of a Brookville Equipment Corp low-emissions locomotive under a government-backed programme to cut pollution in the San Joaquin Basin.

The GP38 has three Cummins QSK-19 engines with TMV controls in a genset configuration, branded CoGeneration by Brookville. The dynamic braking recovers energy to power auxiliary loads.

Demonstation runs showed a 51% fuel saving over CCT’s existing locomotives, with an 82% reduction in NOx and a 74% reduction in particulates.
