Parsons awarded Caltrain PTC contract

30 November 2011

USA: The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board has selected Parsons for a four-year contract to design and install a $138m Communications-Based Overlay Signal System Positive Train Control system for the Caltrain commuter route between San Francisco and San Jose.

CBOSS PTC is scheduled to be in revenue service by October 2015. As well as helping to avoid collisions, it is intended to prevent excessive speeds, incursions into track possessions and movement through misaligned turnouts. CBOSS PTC will be interoperable with the PTC systems implemented by Caltrain tenants Union Pacific, Capitol Corridor, Altamont Commuter Express and Amtrak, with seamless operation of trains moving between Caltrain and UP lines.
