PKP awards station rebuilding contracts

01 July 2011

POLAND: Major contracts have been awarded for the rebuilding of Lódz Fabryczna and Warszawa Zachodnia stations.

PKP PLK has selected Torpol to rebuild Lódz Fabryczna at a cost of 1·45bn zloty. The contract covers demolition of the existing station and construction of four new platforms below ground level, approached by a four-track ramp which will replace the existing 4 km double track route from Lódz Widzew. The rebuilt station will include provision for tunnels running westwards to convert the terminus into a through route from 2020. A privately-funded commercial development is planned over the site.

Meanwhile, Slovak company HB Reavis is to undertake a €110m rebuild of Warszawa Zachodnia station, where seven large commercial buildings are planned. The contract awarded by PKP SA covers the station building, as the platforms and tracks are to be modernised by PKP PLK at a later stage.
