Electrification.

Torpedo wagons carrying pig iron from a blast furnace to a steel works can be weighed automatically using the Multirail HotMetalWeight application, developed by Darmstadt-based Schenck Process. Dynamic train scales are made from standard concrete turnout bearers with built-in load sensors.

China South subsidiary CSR Puzhen has adopted SEE Electrical Harness software from IGE XAO for use in the design of harnesses for rolling stock applications. The software simplifies the production of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, speeding production.

 

BNSF is to deploy Tideworks Technology’s Spinnaker vehicle and container tracking and management software at the Alliance intermodal terminal in Forth Worth, Texas.

 

In February track draining specialist Demco will launch TerraPit, a lightweight and modular glass reinforced plastic catchpit which can be installed by three people in 30 min, rather than six workers and 1½ h with a traditional concrete design.

European high speed train operator Thalys completed the roll-out of wi-fi on its fleet of 26 trainsets during November. First launched in May, the broadband service is managed by a consortium of Nokia Siemens, 21Net and Telenet.

Amberg Technologies has introduced a three-dimensional clearance surveying technology. Total stations and GPS sensors are supported to allow comprehensive geo-referencing, allowing for real-time clearance checking in a single surveying session.
