MOZAMBIQUE: Work to reconstruct the 80 km branch of the Sena line from Inhamitanga, 175 km north of the port of Beira, to Marromeu on the Zambezi River has been completed.
The main traffic on the re-opened line will be sugar for export. Limestone is already being moved 100 km along the reopened main line from Muanza to a cement factory in Dondo.
Rehabilitation of the entire 590 km Sena line to serve coal mines at Moatize is expected to be completed by May 2009. It is being undertaken by the consortium of Rites and Ircon which holds the 25-year concession for the CFM Centre network.
