Security: Trying an intelligent eye

15 November 2007

THIS MONTH UK train operator Midland Main Line will complete trials of an 'intelligent' CCTV system at Sheffield station. The centrally-managed system supplied by Atos Orgin is claimed to be capable of automatically identifying and alerting staff to unattended baggage or a passenger standing too close to the platform edge.

Atos Orgin Business Development Manager Nick Kaimakami said 'CCTV has been a forensic tool and not a real-time crime prevention system. This system will not only improve safety and security for passengers and staff, but will allow Midland Main Line to derive better business intelligence and return on their existing CCTV investment.'
