POLAND: City transport operator MPK Wroclaw has selected Skoda Transportation to supply a further 28 trams. The 268m zloty contract is expected to be signed in March, with the trams to enter service between November 2010 and October 2011.

They will be similar to the Skoda 16T type which is already in service, but will be bi-directional and have doors on both sides. They will have a conductor's area with CCTV monitoring and direct communications with the police. The conductors will assist passengers, but will only sell tickets when kiosks are closed. The trams will be air-conditioned and equipped with dynamic passenger information systems.

The order is part of the city's long-term Tramwaj Plus project to provide fast segregated light rail services to residential areas which are currently only served by buses.

• Offers for 35 unidirectional low-floor articulated trams were to be submitted to ZKM Gdansk by February 9. Worth an estimated €10m, the trams must be delivered in 2011. And, on January 19, MPK Poznan invited offers for 40 new low-floor trams worth 510m zloty; these were due by February 19. Final delivery date for these cars is March 31 2012.
