TUNISIA: National railway SNCFT has awarded a consortium of Alstom and Ansaldo STS a €54m contract to electrify the 23 km metre-gauge Tunis Ville - Borj Cedria suburban line at 25 kV 50 Hz.
Alstom has a €36m share of the contract, which was announced on February 7. Work to be undertaken by the French firm on the future express metro Line A includes the construction of a substation and raising platforms. Ansaldo STS will be responsible for signalling and telecoms, including integration with existing systems, and the provision of computer-based interlockings at Tunis Ville station and Borj Cedria.
Sumitomo and Hyundai Rotem are to supply a fleet of 76 EMU cars for the line, which is being upgraded to form the first of five lines in the planned RFR network.
