Westrace licensed for Chinese production

21 September 2010
China

CHINA: Invensys Rail has signed an agreement with Zhuzhou CSR Times Electric Co Ltd (TEG), licensing the CSR subsidiary to manufacture and sell its Westrace electronic interlocking in China. The two companies will also work together to sell ‘broader train control and signalling solutions’ through TEG into the Chinese urban market, worth an estimated €670m a year according to UNIFE.

Invensys is to become CSR’s exclusive signalling supplier on an agreed set of projects outside China which combine the supply of rolling stock and signalling. Initial projects are in the urban sector and span the Middle East, India and southeast Asia, according to Invensys.

'China is a strategically important market for us’, said Invensys Rail CEO James Drummond. ‘The country is investing heavily in its railway infrastructure and represents a significant growth opportunity for us in Asia. We are therefore delighted to enter into these agreements with CSR and TEG, who are not only key players in China but are becoming an increasing force in the global railway market’.
