Newag selected to supply 20 electric locos to PKP IC
POLAND: PKP Intercity has selected Newag as preferred bidder to supply and maintain 20 electric locomotives, with options for up to 10 more.
Deliveries are due to be completed within 30 months of contract signature. The tender specifies that the 160 km/h locos must have at least 95% availability. The order is part of PKP IC’s 7bn złoty rolling stock programme that also includes purchase and modernisation of electric multiple-units.
On December 29 the operator called tenders for the purchase of 12 EMUs, with a deadline for bids of February 20. Two units are to be delivered within 18 months of contract signature. The remaining 10 EMUs are due to be delivered after the first two have completed six months of trial running, with deliveries completed within 48 months of contract signature. The supplier will be responsible for maintenance.
The EMUs are required to have a maximum speed of at least 160 km/h, air-conditioning, wi-fi, bicycle spaces, and at least 294 second class and 60 first class seats. They will be equipped for ETCS levels 1 and 2.
PKP IC expects to select a bidder in the second half of the year for the modernisation of 14 ED74 EMUs. This is due to be completed within 48 months from contract signature, with their re-entry into passenger service planned for late 2020. Also due to be modernised are a further 10 140A/112A first class coaches, within 13 months from contract signature.
By the end of 2023 PKP IC plans to modernise a total of 700 coaches and purchase a further 185. It also plans to purchase 118 locos and modernise 200, and purchase 19 EMUs.
