Bombardier to supply more VLocity cars
AUSTRALIA: Victoria's state Premier Ted Baillieu announced an order for Bombardier to supply a further 40 VLocity diesel multiple-unit cars on November 26.
To be built at Bombardier's Dandenong South factory for delivery in 2014-16, the vehicles will be a mix of new DMUs and extra cars to lengthen existing two-car units to three cars. The additional capacity is required to handle increasing ridership on V/Line services and growth expected when the Regional Rail Link opens in 2016.
'Today's announcement is good news for Victoria's public transport network, especially for residents of Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour and Traralgon who will benefit from these additional carriages', said Baillieu. The trains will have 70% local content, and the order will secure 'more than 70 jobs at Bombardier.'
Baillieu said the contract worth more than A$200m was 'excellent value for money for Victorian taxpayers.'
