Improved Class 66 arrives

27 March 2008

FRANCE: During March the first EMD JT42CWRM loco for Euro Cargo Rail arrived in France for testing, after being shipped from Canada in December for final fitting out at NedTrain's Tilburg plant in the Netherlands.

Better cab isolation offers improved driver comfort compared to the JT42CWR, which was restricted by the requirements of the British operators of the first Class 66 locos, including the tighter UK loading gauge.

The 21 m length is the same as before, but the weight is slightly higher at 129 tonnes. The 12 cylinder two-stroke engine delivers 2 420 kW with low particle emissions. The locos will be able to work between France, Belgium and Germany.
