Kharkiv metro expansion study

10 Mar 2015

UKRAINE: The European Bank for Reconstruction & Development and the European Investment Bank are to fund a feasibility study for the extension of Kharkiv metro Line 3, with a view to funding its construction. The current cost estimate is put at €350m.

City-owned operator Kharkiv Metro Co expects ridership on Line 3 to increase by up to 25 million passengers per year following modernisation of the route and construction of the planned southern extension to Odes’ka.

The feasibility study would propose a detailed route alignment, together with refined ridership forecasts and refined cost estimates. The study is due to start in the second quarter of 2015 and last for seven months. Its €500 000 cost would be financed through the EBRD’s Technical Co-operation Funds Programme.
