Skyharbor peoplemover contracts signed

USA: The City of Phoenix and Bombardier Transportation have signed contracts for the construction of an automated peoplemover at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The agreement announced on July 14 consists of a US$186m design and build contract, plus a separate 10-year operations and maintenance contract worth US$69m.

The 3·5 km first stage of PHX SkyTrain is to be completed in 2012. Bombardier will supply 18 Innovia driverless vehicles and Cityflo 650 automatic train control. Prime subcontractor Weitz Construction will be responsible for E&M installations, employing a team of local contractors led by Suntec Concrete and Wilson Electric Services. CK Group will provide design services.
