Unlikely partners at high speed wedding

FIVE YEARS ago such a marriage would have been unthinkable. The improbable union of French and German high speed technology in a single train was revealed on May 4 when Siemens and GEC Alsthom unveiled the Eurotrain. Formed of a pair of ICE2 power cars enclosing an eight-car articulated set of TGV Duplex double-deckers, the Eurotrain was demonstrated to a high ranking delegation of Taiwanese officials as part of Taiwan High Speed Rail Consortium's efforts to clinch a 35-year build-operate-and-transfer concession for the Taipei - Kaohsiung high speed line.
