ZSSK orders 12 DMUs

20 May 2009
Passengers in Slovakia.

SLOVAKIA: ZOS Vrútky has won a €53m contract to supply 12 Class 860 three-car inter-regional DMUs to national passenger operator ZSSK. The first tender, announced in September 2008, was withdrawn after a lack of interest from suppliers.

The Class 860 will be partly based on six Class 840 two-car GTW 2/6 DMUs delivered by a consortium of Stadler and ZOS Vrútky in 2003. The 140 km/h low-floor air-conditioned units will offer 177 second-class seats plus space for bicycles, prams and luggage. The driving cars will be powered by 400 kW MAN engines with Voith transmission.

The DMUs will be delivered in 2010-15 for use on Humenné - Presov - Kosice - Humenné services and from Nové Zámky to Leopoldov and Prievidza.
