ALSTOM: Alstom announced at InnoTrans 2014 that it is to launch an update to its Citadis tram family.

The Citadis X05 uses permanent magnet motors and is faster than existing Citadis vehicles, with a top speed of 80 km/h. As well as being equipped for use with Alstom’s APS ground power supply technology already in use in several cities, the X05 will feature ‘full on-board autonomy’ for catenary-free operation.

The tram will be available in lengths of 24 m to 44 m. In addition to custom external styling, there will be options for internal and external LED lighting. The vehicle will have double doors along its length, as well as a wider central aisle.

The surface area covered by glass is to increase by 12%, thanks to a novel ‘balcony concept’ where the windows in certain modules within each tram can descend almost to floor level.
