Abellio GmbH became sole shareholder in WFB in July 2017, acquiring the interests former partners of Mindener Kreisbahnen GmbH, moBiel GmbH and Verkehrsbetriebe Extertal GmbH.

WFB has a 15-year contract from December 13, 2015, to operate regional passenger trains:

  • RE 15 Emsland-Express from Münster to Emden via Rheine
  • RE 60 Ems-Leine-Express from Rheine to Löhne, Hanover and Braunschweig (& Helmstedt)
  • RE 70 Weser-Leine-Express from Bielefeld to Löhne, Hanover and Braunschweig (& Helmstedt)

WFB has leased ET400 Stadler Flirt 3 and ET600 Stadler Kiss EMUs from Alpha Trains.

Several local services in the area formerly run by WFB (RB 61, 65, 66 & 72) were transferred to Keolis Deutschland under the Eurobahn brand in December 2017.
