Work on Denmark’s first modern light rail line began in 2013, with the first section from Aarhus H to AU Hospital opened on December 21 2017 (6·4 km, 12 stops); extensions north to Lystrup and Lisbjergskolen completed the new light rail sections (total 12 km, 18 stops).
On August 25 2018 tram-trains began running south to Odder over a converted branch line (29 km, 16 stops). On April 30 2019 the tram-train service was extended north to Grenaa (69 km, 14 stops).
Keolis Aarhus Letbane has a six-year operating contract.
