Construction began 2009, with Phase 1 opened on November 11 2014 from Jumeirah (metro interchange) to Al Sufouh (10·6 km, 11 stops).
The network is planned to be extended by 4·1 km and six more stops, with 14 additional LRVs.
Serco, the operator of Dubai’s metro, holds an operating contract.
