First line opened 1932. Network of 14 operating routes serving 121 stops.
Core of routes serve the central districts, with seven branches, together with a longer inter-urban northern ‘Y’, part serving the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Combinate works to the northeast. In November 2022 a fleet of 74 four-axle bogie trams was ordered from UKVZ.
A metro is under construction.
