City-centre network operated as three routes serving 27 stops. See Rio de Janeiro network map.
The first section began demonstrator service on June 5 2016 between Santos Dumont airport and Parada dos Museos (3·2 km, 8 stops), later extended to Praia Formosa (a further 5 km, 10 stops).
A second line, from Praça XV (Barcas) to Saara (1·8 km, 4 stops) opened on February 6 2017 and was extended to connect with the northern loop at Gamboa on October 21 2017 (1·9 km, 2 stops).
On October 26 2019 the final section opened from Central to Candelária (1·2 km, 3 stops). Line 3 began operation from Centro do Brasil to Candelária, then running on shared alignment with Line 1 from there to Santos Dumont.
