Established in 1902, IRCA processes all proposals regarding classification and packing conditions for freight, parcels and luggage on IR. It compiles tariffs and rule books covering interchange of traffic, and allocates codes to new stations and sidings. Statistics are kept of metre-gauge wagon interchange between zonal railways, and hire charges apportioned amongst them. Account is also maintained of wagons interchanged with Pakistan and Bangladesh railways. Through its Neutral Control Organisation, IRCA ensures that wagons and coaches are maintained to prescribed standards.
