Single line serving 5 stations opened 2023. See Lagos network map.
The first phase of the Blue Line running west from Marina to Mile 2 began test operation on December 21 2022 (12·7 km, 5 stations), with a commercial service beginning on September 4 2023, albeit initially with diesel traction prior to commissioning of the electrification. Eventually the Blue line will extend west to Okokomaiko (total: 27·5 km, 13 stations). CRRC Dalian is supplying 15 four-car sets with and option for 14 more.
Construction on the Red line began on April 15 2021 ; this shares the Blue Line alignment from Marina to Iddo before veering northeast to pick up the mainline corridor of the Lagos – Ibadan standard gauge railway, which it will follow as far north as Agbado (37 km). A branch from Ikeja will serve Lagos Murtala Mohammed International Airport (2 stations).
Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has developed plans for a 246 km seven-line light rail network and is overseeing construction of LRMT.
