Opened 2019; single line with branch, serving 22 stops.
Preparatory work for a light rail line from Port Louis south to Curepipe began in March 2017 with the main construction contract signed on July 31 2017.
Phase 1 from Port Louis Victoria as far as Rose Hill Central opened on October 3 2019, with full commercial service from January 10 2020 (Phase 1: 12·6 km, 7 stops). A continuation south to Quatre Bornes Central opened on June 20 2021 (Phase 2A: 2·6 km, 2 stops), with extension to Phoenix following on May 8 2022 (Phase 2B: 3·4 km, 3 stops). The remainder beyond Phoenix to Curepipe Central opened on October 10 2022 (6·9 km, 7 stops).
On January 23 2023 the first half of a 0·7 km extension northeast to Aapravasi Ghat at the port end opened, reaching a temporary terminus at Place d’Armes (0·3 km, 1 stop). On the same day a branch running northeast from Rose Hill to Mahatma Gandhi opened (3·1 km, 2 stops)
The line largely follows the alignment of the standard gauge Mauritius Government Railways’ Midland Line, closed in 1964.
