First line opened 1913. Network comprises 6 lines with 85 stations. See Buenos Aires network map.
Since 1994 the metro has been operated by the Metrovias private-sector consortium under concession, and since 2013 this has been let on a year-by-year basis. Infrastructure is owned by Subterraneos de Buenos Aires, which is tendering for a multi-year operating concession. Metrovias also operates the Urquiza suburban railway running from metro Line B at Federico Lacroze to General Lemos. Light rail Line P opened 1987, and an experimental light rail route serves the Puerto Madero redevelopment area.
Line H is being extended north, with Corrientes - Las Heras (2·0 km, 2 stations) opened December 18 2015, and on to Julieta Lanteri-Facultad de Derecho (0·8 km) on May 17 2018. A 2·4 km extension of Line E from Bolivar to Retiro opened on June 3 2019, adding three stations.
