Mosgortrans GUP, State Company for Passenger Transport

First line opened 1872; 40 routes, serving around 1200 stops. See Moskva network map.

Mosgortrans operates an extensive conventional tramway, including short lines and tangential routes. It serves large areas around the historic centre and CBD, northeast, east and south, plus a secondary network serving the northwest districts of Strogino, Sokol and Koptevo.

The network has remained largely unchanged in size in recent years. However, an 600m extension to Tverskaya Zastava opened in 2017, and on September 23 2024 a new link along ul Sergiya Radonezhskogo entered service (600m, 1 stop). A year later on September 10 2025 a connection between the central terminus at Chistye Prudy via a 1·6 km new line northeast along Prospekt Akademika Sakharova and the tram hub at Komsomolskaya opened with launch of new route 90.

At the end of 2020, Moskva’s city government transferred management of the tramway infrastructure to Moskva Metro.
