Two-line 14·2 km, 24-stop light rail network opened February 2023.
Under construction since August 2013, test running began at the end of 2020. Opening was planned for early 2021, then postponed to 2022, but took place on February 18 2023.
Line T1 runs from Lycée Oukraf Mohammed at La Salamandre, where the depot is located, northeast via the city centre and mainline station to Université Karouba in the north, parallelling the Mediterranean coast (12·2 km, 20 stops). Route T2 runs a short way inland from the mainline station to a new bus interchange.
Operation and maintenance is by the SETRAM Mostaganem joint venture of RATP Dev, Entreprise Metro d’Alger, and Etablissement Public de Transport Urbain & Suburbain d’Alger.
