A demonstrator section opened in 2007 (Parque Empresarial – Juan Carlos I, 2·2 km, 4 stops), with Line 1 opened fully on May 28 2011. The ‘V’-shaped line runs from the city centre along two routes: north to Estadio Nueva Condomina, and northwest to a loop around Murcia university (15 km, 24 stops).

A shuttle service operates over the mostly single track branch from Los Rectores-Terra Natura in the northwest runs southwest to UCAM-Los Jerónimos in Guadalupe (3·1 km, 4 stops).
