Opened in 1882, Germany’s shortest urban tramway is just 2·9 km long.
Although the network was closed in 1991, services around the eastern part of the ring line were restored in 2007. In December 2017 a 400 m extension to Salztor was opened, and in 2018 the line was extended bring the station stop 80 m nearer to improve interchange.
