CILT is the professional body for individuals and organisations involved in all disciplines, modes and aspects of transport and logistics, with 22 000 UK members. It is the UK territorial organisation of CILT International, which has 30 000 members worldwide.

On October 6 2017 the Railway Study Association merged into CILT to operate as a forum.
