First line of VAL automated metro opened June 26, 1993 from Basso Cambo northeast to Jolimont via the main station (10·2 km, 15 stations); an extension further northeast to Balma Gramont opened on December 20 2003 (2·3 km, 3 stations).

Line B opened on June 30 2007 from Borderouge south via interchange with Line A at Jean-Jaurès Capitole to Ramonville in the southeast (15·7 km, 20 stations).

A third metro line, formerly referred to as Toulouse Aerospace Express but now branded Line C, began construction in 2023. This will head east from Colomiers to Jean Maga (where the airport tram branch would join the metro) then continue via the centre to Labège in the southeast. An extension of Line B is projected to connect with Line C at Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse.

Marketed with the metro (and currently also using the Line C name) is the Arenès–Colomiers section of SNCF’s Toulouse–Auch line.

Tram Line T1 from Aéroconstellation to Arènes opened December 11 2010 (11 km, 18 stops), and was extended to Palais de Justice in December 2013 (3·0 km, 6 stops). A branch route T2 opened to the airport on April 11 2015 (2·4 km, 3 stops). In April 2023 an initial eight nine Citadis trams were ordered from Alstom.
