A new route from Młociny metro station opened northeast across the Wisla river to Stare Swidry on January 21 2013, and then extended north in stages to Tarchomin/Mehoffera on December 24 2014 (4·5 km, 4 stops), to Nowodwory on February 27 2017 (1·3 km, 2 stops) and lastly to Winnica on September 4 2021 (1·2 km, 2 stops). A western tangential line was completed on February 14 2015 when the Bemowo Ratusz - Radiowa segment opened (1·5 km, 2 stops).
The first phase of the 8 km Wilanów corridor opened on May 11 2024, running southeast from Gorowka through Spacerowa to a branch terminus at Sielce (2·1 km, 4 stops); the trunk route from Spacerowa to Miasteczko Wilanów opened on October 29 2024; the 0·8 km branch to Stegny opened on June 28 2025, served by new route 19. A link between Zachodnia mainline station and Bitwy Warszawskiej (1·6 km) is under construction, expected to form part of a tangential link west to Gorowka. On December 22 2026 the east end of this link from Goworka to Pole Mokotowskie opened (1·0 km, 1 new stop), served by diverted route 19.
Planning and development is overseen by Zarzad Transportu Miejskiego (ZTM), the Warszawa transport authority. The former inter-urban tram operated by WKD Warszawa has been upgraded and is now a suburban railway.
