Service de transport de l’agglomération nancéienne (STAN)

Former TVR guided trolleybus route, closed March 12 2023.

Nantes had planned to convert this to a conventional steel-wheeled tram (see below) but on February 11 2021 the metropolitan council voted to suspend the project. Conversion to a conventional unguided trolleybus is now envisaged.

The former guided rubber-tyred trolleybus route was opened in December 2000 serving 28 stops. It was notable for having a 3 km unguided section with vehicles transitioning on/off the guide rail at Callot, being steered by the driver southwest of this point. Vehicles were also equipped with diesel engines so that they could reach the off-route maintenance depot.

In November 2018 Keolis won a contract to operate local transport until the end of 2024.

Abandoned tram conversion proposal

With the network using the now-discontinued Bombardier TVR system, STAN decided to convert the line to a conventional steel-wheel tramway in the medium term. A project to switch over to steel-wheeled tramway from 2023 was outlined in December 2018. The line would also be extended: from its current northeastern terminus at Mouzimpré it would continue to Porte Verte (2 km, 3 stops). At the other end of the line conversion would be tackled in three stages: from the city southwest to Jeann d’Arc was due by 2023. Conversion of the remainder of the current route to CHRU Brabois would follow by 2026, and finally a new branch from Vélodrome to Roberval would be added by 2028 (total network 11·4 km, 28 stops, 25 vehicles).
