Transdev

Initial route opened 2000; network of five lines serving 103 stops. See Montpellier network map.

Monpellier’s first modern tram line opened on July 1 2000 (15·7 km, 30 stops). Line 2 (19·8 km) opened on December 16 2006, with Lines 3 and 4 following on April 7 2012. On July 2 2016 a connecting link from Louis Blanc to Saint-Denis around the west side of the city centre was opened, completing ring Line 4 (1·2 km, 3 stops).

After a hiatus of over nine years the network has begun to grow again, with an extension of Line 1 from Odysséum to Gare Sud de France opening on October 18 2025, serving the high speed station (1·1 km, 1 stop).

Work on Line 5 was deferred, but construction work began in early 2023 with opening on December 20 2025 using two new branches operating over a 3·1 km of existing Lines 1 and 3 (new sections are north to Clapiers: 4·5 km, 7 stops; and west to Grés de Montpellier: 6·6 km, 11 stops). CAF is supplying 60 LRVs, of which 22 are for Line 5 and a further 30 replace the original Alstom Citadis 302 fleet on Line 1.
