Opened in 1916, this light railway was extended into France reaching Morez in France in 1921, but closed beyond the border at La Cure to Morez in 1958. The remaining section runs from Nyon up the steep side of the Jura mountains to St Cergue and La Cure, serving 18 stations.

The electrification voltage was changed from 2·2 kV DC to 1·5 kV DC during modernisation in 1985. In January 2020 it ordered six 2-car EMUs from Stadler for delivery 2021-22.
