Founded in 1955, the group today comprises HLB Hessenbus GmbH, HSB Hessenbahn GmbH and HLB Basis AG. It operates local and suburban railways and buses in Hessen, and operates (sometimes in joint venture) the Hellertalbahn, the Südthüringenbahn, vectus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH, Regionalbahn Kassel and cantus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH.
