Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County

First line opened 2004; network of three lines serving 32 stops. See Houston network map.

Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County manages this light rail network serving Houston, Texas. The first line to open was the Red line (12·1 km, 16 stops) in 2004, extended north in 2013 to Northline Transit Center/HCC (8·5 km, 8 stops).

On May 23, 2015 the Green and Purple lines were inaugurated. These share the Downtown line (2·5 km, 5 stops) before splitting as the Green/East End line (3·6 km, 5 stops; the final 2-stop section from Altic to Magnolia Park opened January 11, 2017) and Purple/Southeast line (8·1 km, 6 stops). In February 2019 Siemens Mobility won an order for 14 more S70 LRVs.

Two further routes are planned (University line: 16 km, 18 stops; and Uptown line: 6·4 km, 9 stops), although the latter may now be built as a bus way.
