In 1983 NJ Transit, a State Agency, took over commuter lines formerly run by Conrail under contract. It operates 11 routes, the New York State portions of the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines being worked under contract from the New York MTA. Also operates over 210 km Amtrak-owned route between New York and Trenton.
