The Federal Railroad Administration promotes freight and passenger rail safety through development and enforcement of federal rail safety regulations and support of rail safety research. It also oversees Federal investments and financial assistance to the railroad industry, and promotes development and implementation of an integrated nationwide intercity passenger rail system.
