The railway from Phnom-Penh to Poipet, on the then Siamese frontier, was built in two sections in 1930-32 and 1939-40. In 1952, all lines falling within Cambodian territory were amalgamated as Cambodia Railways. A line between Phnom-Penh and Kompong Som (Sihanoukville) was opened in 1969.
