Opened September 5 1959; closed February 1 2023., but due to reopen.

The network expanded reaching a peak of five routes, but closures since the 1990s left just a single route with 19 stops remaining. This was operated by the Ispet Karmet steel group, later ArcelorMittal. The cost of rehabilitation was deemed prohibitive, causing the line’s closure on February 1 2023.

In December 2023 the steel works was bought by Qarmet, along with the tramway which the company agreed to reopen. The first of eight partly-low-floor trams has been delivered with driver trainining beginning in October 2024.
