Alstom announces Ukrainian tram manufacturing agreement
UKRAINE: On June 24 the TramRus joint venture of Alstom and Transmashholding announced an agreement with Ukrainian bus manufacturer City Transport Group to produce trams for the Ukrainian market.
Under the agreement, City Transport Group would manufacture and maintain Citadis CIS trams under licence from TramRus, to replace current ageing fleets.
The 100% low-floor Citadis CIS would be a development of Alstom’s Citadis family, with 1 524 mm gauge bogies suitable for track conditions on existing networks, and winterised to withstand temperatures as low as -40°C. The trams would be between 25 m and 35 m long. They would be designed for a maximum speed of 75 km/h, and be able to achieve an average of 25 km/h on existing infrastructure and signalling, compared with 11 km/h for existing fleets.
Alstom says that the use of composite materials will reduce energy consumption by 10%. The lifetime of the trams would be 30 years, compared with 18 years for existing Ukrainian vehicles.
As with other Citadis vehicles, the interior and exterior designs can be customised according to the desires of different cities.
