Western DFC contracts awarded

19 Aug 2015

INDIA: Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp of India has awarded two civil works and track contracts for the Western DFC to a consortium of Mitsui & Co, Ircon International and Tata Projects.

The contracts announced on August 19 have a total value of ¥76bn, and cover the 186 km Vaitarana – Sachin PKG12 and 134 km Sachin – Vadodara PKG13 sections of the future 1 483 km freight corridor linking Delhi and Mumbai.

The Japanese government is providing yen loans to finance the Western DFC project. Mitsui is the consortium leader for the latest contracts, and Ircon and TPL will jointly undertake the civil engineering works and laying the track using Japanese-made rails.

The Western DFC is expected to reduce freight transport times between Delhi and Mumbai from three days to less than one day, supporting the Indian and Japanese governments’ Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor development initiative.
